Abstract: The authors have investigated the environmental chemistry characters of the surface water in the north of Badong,Western Hubei Province,and evaluated the quality of water quantitatively.The results demonstrate that the surface water in this region belongs to that in typical carbonate terrain.The elemental concentrations are of low level.The surface water in the region is not involved in obvious heavy metal pollution.The average values of element contents from 7 water samples may be considered as the background of the surface water in the north of Badong region.
