ENVIRONMENTAL GEOCHEMISTRY OF THE CADMIUM CONTAMINATED SOIL IN LUOQIAO AREA, HUBEI PROVINCE

    • Research on the environmental geochemistry of the Cadmium contaminated soil in Luohu area of Hubei Province reveals that: 1) The background value of Cd in soil of the area is 0.068×10-6. 2) The total contents and active state contents of Cd vary in different kinds of soils. 3) The contamination degree of Cd changes with depth of soil and distance form the pollution source. 4) The concentrations of Cd in contaminated soil are different with the occurring states of Cd. 5) The direct source of the cadmium contamination in soils of Luoqiao area is the water pollution caused by swage discharge and irrigation. The discharge of waste gas from a nearby nonferrous metal smeltery is another cause for the Cd pollution of soil in the area.
