GEOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF HEAVY METAL ELEMENTS IN PADDY AND CORN FROM TIELING, LIAONING PROVINCE

    • Research on the distribution of heavy metal element contents in paddy and corn from Tieling, Liaoning Province indicate that, heavy metal elements, especially Pb, Zn, Cd and Cr, share a common distribution rule, i.e. the high content spots are all distributed around heavily polluted area, such as Chaihe lead-zinc ore field and the lower reaches of Chaihe River. Comparison between Chaihe lead-zinc ore filed and Tieling area as background value shows that the distribution of heavy metal elements in paddy and corn is much correlated to the background environment such as soil and shallow groundwater. The heavy metal elements in paddy and corn can enter human body through food chain and harm the health.
