Application of integrated geophysical methods in graphite exploration in eastern Liaoning Province

    • The graphite-bearing strata of Gaojiayu Formation are well developed in eastern Liaoning Province, which is an important metallogenic area within the Liao-Ji graphite metallogenic belt. Previous studies have gained some understanding of the genesis of graphite deposits in this region, and have also tested various exploration techniques. For graphite exploration, selecting effective methods to identify graphite mineralization and interpret geological structures is of critical importance. In this study, integrated geophysical methods were tested on the graphite-bearing strata in eastern Liaoning to comprehensively evaluate the applicability of the spontaneous potential(SP) method and induced polarization (IP) surveys. This combined method was then applied to Xiangyang area in eastern Liaoning, where multi-parameter interpretation was used to characterize the deep geological structures. The interpretation results were subsequently verified by drilling and showed good consistency with the actual geological conditions. Based on these exploration results, this paper presents prospecting indicators for typical graphite deposits in eastern Liaoning and proposes a geological-geophysical prospecting model for such deposits.
