FRACTAL DIMENSION STUDY ON THE SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF LANDSLIDES BASED ON ArcGIS: A Case Study of Ningdu County, Jiangxi Province

    • The quantitative study on the spatial distribution of landslides is of practical significance to understand their development characteristics, and can provide important basis for landslide prevention. To find out the spatial distribution characteristics, the variable dimension fractal theory is applied to carry out a quantitative study on the spatial distribution regularity based on ArcGIS and the data of 1:50000 scale geological hazard survey in Ningdu County of Jiangxi Province. The results show that the spatial distribution of landslide is in second-order cumulative total fractal distribution to landform, rock-soil mass type, elevation and slope, promoting the study from qualitative up to quantitative level. The fractal dimension values are then calculated with explanation for the significances.
