GEOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND PROSPECTING DIRECTIONS OF SUPER-LARGE SILVER DEPOSITS

    • Super-large silver deposits play an important role in total resources of silver. It is an important subject of study on silver deposits in recent years. The author has studied mineralization, metallogenic epoch and mineralization places in detail, based on the characters of super-lage silver deposits both in China and abroad. The author also discusses geological features, types and ore-hunting directions of super-large silver deposits. All the super-large silver deposits are occurred in circum-Pacific metallogenic belt, and controlled by Mesozoic-Cenozoic volcanic rock belts and rift zones. They are related to acid or acid-intermediate magmatic activity. Based on metallogenic systems, super-large silver deposits may be classified into epithermal deposits, porphyry type, and quinary element deposits. Mesozoic-Cenozoic volcanic rock belts and rift zones are the best prospective areas for finding super-large silver deposits in China, such as Daxinganling-Taihangshang area.
