Abstract
Based on the study on geology, petrochemistry, rare earth elements, trace elements and stable isotopes, it is proved that the Mesozoic volcanic rocks in Taibai-Weishan area, north Shanxi Province, are composed mainly of latite, trachyandesite, trachyte, rhyolite and their clastic rocks. The subvolcanic rocks are mainly quartz porphyry. The volcanic rocks are rich in potassium and belong to alkali basalt series. They occure in mobilizational belt of inner plate. It is believed that the magma of the volcanic rocks generated from partial melting of the material at higher mantle, but was contaminated by crustal matter. In addition, there is a close relationship between the volcanic rocks and silver mineraliza tion.
